In the heart of Lexington, Kentucky, is Alltech Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co., a unique stop on the world-famous Kentucky Bourbon Trail® experience an done of only a handful of joint brewing and distilling operations in the world.
The site is home to Town Branch Distillery and our brewery, which produces the Kentucky Ale® family of beers. It is the oldest craft brewery in Lexington. Alltech founder and president Dr. Pearse Lyons acquired the 200-year-old Lexington Brewing Co. in 1999 and resurrected the Lexington brewing and distilling tradition that dates back to 1794.
Town Branch® Distillery
Town Branch Distillery — which opened in 2012 as the first new distillery in downtown Lexington in more than a century — is named for Lexington’s Town Branch stream, the waterway rich with limestone that once enticed numerous distillers to set up operations along its course. Built with Kentucky limestone and featuring glass walls to showcase two copper pot stills, the 20,000-square-foot facility produces Town Branch® Bourbon, Town Branch® Rye, Town Branch® Malt, Pearse Lyons Reserve® malt whiskey and the bourbon-infused coffee drink, Bluegrass Sundown®. Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co., made up of Town Branch Distillery and the brewery producing a broad family of beers, is one of only a few sites in the world to house both distilling and brewing operations.
In 2012, Town Branch Distillery also became the seventh member distillery of the famed Kentucky Bourbon Trail® experience, which welcomd more than half a million international visitors in 2017. Distillery tours run daily and also include a tour of the Lexington Brewing & Distilling Co., where our Kentucky family of beers is made.
